A new cancer treatment for breast cancer has shown promising results in international research, extending the lifespan of patients with serious illness and improving quality of life for some, Faroese public broadcaster KVF reports.
Breast cancer is among the most severe cancer diagnoses, as it is often detected late and has limited treatment options. However, the new therapy has been proven to prolong average life expectancy in patients, according to researcher and chief physician Tordis Kristiansdóttir of the oncology outpatient clinic at the National Hospital.
“This is a historic breakthrough, the likes of which we haven’t seen since 2013,” Kristiansdóttir said. She noted that the findings, presented at recent international cancer conferences, represent a significant advance in the fight against the disease. Several countries have already begun adopting the new treatment, though it will take time before it is implemented in the Faroe Islands.
Researchers have hailed the results as a major step forward in combating the illness.
