KLM flight from Bergen diverted after engine failure
A KLM flight from Bergen to Amsterdam was diverted to Billund, Denmark, on Friday after the aircraft experienced engine trouble, passengers told Dagbladet.
Arild von Feste, a passenger on the flight, said the plane was struck by two loud bangs in quick succession, followed by smoke filling the cabin. He described the cabin crew as “stressed but professional” and admitted he feared the worst.
“I thought my time was up,” von Feste said.
Passengers were initially given little information, but after about an hour, the captain announced the right engine had lost oil pressure, causing significant damage. The plane landed safely in Billund, the nearest airport, using only one engine.
Passengers were offered psychological support upon landing, though von Feste and his wife declined. They later accepted an alternative KLM flight to Amsterdam, scheduled to depart Billund at 19:00.
KLM confirmed the engine issue to Norwegian news agency BA, stating the captain shut down the affected engine before landing safely. The airline said it is investigating the cause and understands the distress caused to passengers.
