Up to half a million people are expected in Copenhagen this weekend for a cycling race, a concert, and a Pokémon Go event, according to a report by Danish broadcaster DR.
Vice police inspector Simon Hansen of Copenhagen Police said the Copenhagen Sprint cycling race, an international Pokémon Go gathering in Fælledparken, and a concert by singer Christopher in Valbyparken will draw large crowds. The weekend also marks the final day of the 3daysofdesign festival.
Hansen warned of heavy traffic, particularly due to the cycling event, and advised residents and visitors to check travel plans and consider walking or cycling instead of driving. He also urged caution near the race route, noting that cyclists will travel at high speeds.
Lars Ramme Nielsen, industry director at Dansk Erhverv, called the weekend “almost historic” for the city, with hotels nearly fully booked. He predicted it could be the best June on record for Copenhagen’s hospitality sector.
“There will be ringing cash registers everywhere,” Nielsen said, adding that visitors will spend money on taxis, metro fares, restaurants, and other experiences across the city.
