Up to 60,000 Pokémon Go players are expected to descend on Copenhagen’s Fælledparken this weekend as the global event Pokémon Go Fest 2026 arrives in the city, reports DR.
The festival, which has already been held in Tokyo and Chicago, will bring new and rare Pokémon to the streets of Copenhagen, including two new variants of Mewtwo—Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y—as well as a species normally found only in Hawaii.
Benjamin Herbst, an official Pokémon Go ambassador and owner of the Superhelten store on Østerbro, called the event a milestone for local fans. “When it was announced, I almost cried. It doesn’t get bigger than this in my world,” he said. “They’ve created something brilliant—getting people out, meeting each other, and catching Pokémon together.”
Gerda Brandt Jakobsen, a five-year player, has taken time off work to participate. “I’m incredibly excited. I’ve traveled around Europe for events like this before, and it’s amazing to geek out over my hobby with so many others,” she said. “It’s like collecting stamps—I want them all.”
Herbst, who has collected Pokémon for 30 years, added: “It’s fantastic that new ones still come out now and then for us to find together.”
