Tórshavn mayor confirms cemetery maintenance will resume

Cemetery maintenance in Tórshavn has been neglected due to budget cuts, but the work will now resume, mayor Elsa Berg told Kringvarp Føroya.

Berg cited cost-saving measures as the reason the cemetery along Velbastaðvegin had fallen into disrepair, though mowing had begun earlier this week. She confirmed that maintenance is now being prioritised.

Overgrowth from spreading plants has contributed to the poor conditions, Berg said. While some work is already contracted out annually, the municipality plans to assign more staff to maintain cemeteries and other public green spaces.
