Investigators have determined that the bus involved in last week’s fatal accident in Turku’s Varissuo district entered the pedestrian crossing from behind a triangular traffic island before striking a 7-year-old child on a bicycle, according to a report by Yle.

The child died instantly in the collision, which occurred on the evening of 5 June.

Police have interviewed the bus driver and multiple witnesses, collected video evidence, and conducted technical examinations, said Riikka Laaksonen, the lead investigator and detective chief inspector with the Southwest Finland Police Department.

The driver remains under suspicion for aggravated endangerment of traffic safety and aggravated manslaughter. The pre-trial investigation continues.
