The board of Sjónámi in Klaksvík is waiting for potential building modifications before appointing new leadership, according to Bárður á Lakjuni, the minister responsible for the institution.

An assessment will determine whether structural changes are needed to improve coordination between the two maritime training schools under Sjónámi’s umbrella. The education authority has been asked to submit proposals in consultation with both maritime schools and other stakeholders, Bárður á Lakjuni stated in response to a query from MP Hermann R. Samuelsen, who asked why a new director had not yet been appointed.

The minister confirmed plans to install new leadership at Sjónámi as soon as the building-related issues are resolved. A blue paper outlining the future structure will also be prepared, he added.

Improved coordination between the two maritime schools is a priority, Bárður á Lakjuni said, noting that relocating Brandskúlan to Sjónámi in Klaksvík has been considered.
