The Pori parish union’s joint church council has suspended the Keski-Pori facade renovation project after all bids exceeded the allocated budget by nearly three times, Yle reports.

The council rejected the tenders and will restart the procurement process. Only one main contract bid was received, eliminating competition.

The council considers the church tower restoration urgent and is now reviewing which works could be deferred or scaled back to reduce costs. The 2026 investment plan allocated €830,000 for the project, which also includes restoring the facade lighting and the tower clock mechanisms.
