No fatal shootings in Sweden in May

Sweden recorded no fatal shootings in May, according to police statistics cited by public broadcaster SVT.

Four people were injured in a total of six shootings during the month. Since the start of the year, eight people have been fatally shot, including four in March alone.

January 2026 also saw no fatal shootings. The last full calendar month without a fatal shooting was March 2018, nearly eight years prior.

The total number of shootings this year has nearly halved compared to the same period in 2025, with 37 incidents reported from January to May, down from 73 last year.
