Emergency beacon from missing Faroese fishing boat triggers search

An emergency beacon from a small fishing vessel that went missing west of Hestur activated the distress frequency near Vágar Airport early Wednesday, Faroese public broadcaster KVF reports.

The beacon, an EPIRB device, continued transmitting as authorities launched a search at sea. A rescue helicopter was deployed and located the beacon, which was recovered and deactivated.

The incident follows an unrelated grounding Tuesday, when the passenger vessel Brimil ran aground near Strendur while en route from Tórshavn.
