Safety investigation launched into Kannonkoski plane crash
A formal safety investigation has begun into last week’s fatal plane crash in Kannonkoski, central Finland, the Safety Investigation Authority (Otkes) announced on Tuesday.
The accident occurred last Thursday when a small aircraft veered off a private airstrip and crashed into a nearby forest. The pilot, the sole occupant, died at the scene.
Otkes is preparing its investigation plan and will provide further details by the end of the week. The crash site was an informal grass runway, one of many in Finland that operate outside official oversight. Such strips require only the landowner’s permission for takeoffs and landings by hobbyist pilots.
The aircraft has already been transported for technical examination as part of the probe.
