The Faroese Engineers’ Association is demanding a written account from the state energy company SEV after workers at the Sund power plant received a shipment of heavy fuel oil that was unusable due to contamination and a foul odor, the association’s chair told public broadcaster KVF.
Arnfinn Bech, chair of the association, had requested a meeting with SEV on Monday to address the issue—marking the third time the plant has received substandard fuel—but called it off after insisting on a formal written response instead.
“It is crucial that SEV learns from these mistakes,” Bech said, adding that staff at Sund “must receive clear information about what kind of oil this was.”
The contaminated delivery raised concerns among engineers about potential health risks. SEV has not yet commented publicly on the incident.
