A construction site in Argir was fully shut down last week after inspectors found severe safety breaches during work on new residential buildings, Faroese broadcaster KVF reports.
The Labour and Fire Safety Authority ordered the immediate stoppage, marking the first time such a measure has been enforced in the Faroe Islands. The decision follows around 100 inspections last year that uncovered persistent violations.
The project, managed by contractor Jóan Petur Vang for developer Lív Fastogn, was halted after a worker repeatedly broke safety protocols and was subsequently dismissed. Vang, who has operated for 25 years, stated he had no prior major accidents but confirmed the termination, calling the incident “unfortunate.”
Attempts by KVF to interview Vang on camera were declined.
