The Fast Track scheme, also known as quick immigration processing, which was introduced in 2021, has seen a significant increase in usage.

In 2021, 60 work permits were issued; in 2022, the number increased to 635 first-time work permits. In 2023, there were 372 first-time work permits granted, and by July 1 of this year, 224 permits had been issued.

To ensure that foreign workers can support their families in the Faroe Islands, the government implemented income thresholds for work permits in September last year for workers bringing their families to the country.

The government has stated that it is still too early to assess the impact of these thresholds, as most applications for residence permits submitted for accompanying family members after September of last year are still under review.

Currently, there are 54 pending cases.
