The Fast Track work permit system, introduced in 2021, has become widely utilized in the Faroe Islands.
In 2021, a total of 60 work permits were granted. This number increased significantly in 2022, when 635 permits were issued for the first time. In 2023, 372 permits were granted by mid-year, with 224 issued by July 1.
To ensure that foreign workers can support their families while living in the Faroe Islands, the government established income thresholds in September last year concerning work permits for employees bringing their families with them.
The government notes that it is too early to assess the impact of these thresholds, as many applications for residency permits for accompanying family members submitted after September last year are still under review.
Currently, there are 54 cases pending.
