Danish public broadcaster DR has appointed Kirsten Marie Svendsen as its new news director, ending her interim role after eight months, the organisation announced Monday.

Svendsen will take full responsibility for DR’s news output from 1 August, overseeing editorial strategy and reinforcing the broadcaster’s position in Danish news media. She has served as acting director since October 2025, following the departure of her predecessor after eight years in the role.

Naja Nielsen, DR’s incoming content director, said Svendsen’s appointment would help solidify the broadcaster as “the preferred news anchor for Danes.”

Svendsen brings over two decades of experience in journalism and leadership, having worked at both DR and commercial broadcaster TV2.
