Police have escalated charges in Saturday’s fatal bus accident in Helsinki’s Senate Square to aggravated endangerment of traffic safety and aggravated manslaughter, public broadcaster Yle reports.

The driverless city bus rolled for tens of metres before striking a pedestrian, who later died of her injuries. The bus only came to a stop after colliding with a second parked bus on Unioninkatu. Investigators have so far found no evidence of a technical fault, though a full accident probe—expected to take weeks—will examine that possibility.

Rikoskomisario Anssi Enqvist, the lead investigator, confirmed the driver has yet to be questioned but is scheduled for interview early this week. Charges may be adjusted further as the investigation progresses.
