Tram operations in central Tampere have been suspended due to an electrical fault, with repairs expected to take several hours, according to VR, the state-owned operator of the city’s tram network.

A tram on line 1 came to a stop at Keskustori square after a problem was detected in the overhead power line, forcing passengers to disembark mid-journey. Service has now been fully interrupted between Pyynikintori and Sammonaukio stations.

Tampere Regional Transport (Nysse) is advising passengers to use its journey planner for alternative routes. VR’s operational manager Vesa Rauhala confirmed the fault, stating that repair work is underway. The affected tram has been towed to a depot for inspection.

Despite the disruption, line 1 continues to operate westbound from Pyynikintori to Lentävänniemi and eastbound from Sammonaukio to Kauppi campus. Line 3 remains in service between Hervantajärvi and Sammonaukio.
