The Faroese Engineers’ Association has sharply criticised the state-owned energy company SEV for failing to protect workers’ health, after the utility purchased contaminated heavy fuel oil for its Sund power plant for the third time, public broadcaster KVF reports.
Arnfinn Bech, the union’s chair, accused SEV of showing “gross negligence” by repeatedly exposing engineers to hazardous working conditions. “No one should have to risk their life to produce electricity for the Faroese people,” he said.
The latest incident follows previous cases where engineers fell ill after handling contaminated fuel at the plant. SEV has not yet responded to the allegations.
