Norwegian police are investigating Swedish gang criminals suspected of human trafficking in the Trøndelag region, Dagbladet reports.

A Swedish national has been remanded in custody, with multiple others under suspicion. The investigation spans Sweden, Thailand, and Taiwan, where encrypted communication apps were allegedly used, according to police prosecutor Charlotte-Renée Ulstad.

Authorities aim to question a 30-year-old man from Namdalen, currently detained in Taiwan, who is considered a victim in the case. However, Norway’s lack of formal diplomatic ties with Taiwan has delayed the process.

“Trøndelag police district has limited prior experience collaborating with Taiwan,” Ulstad said. “This requires additional diplomatic, legal, and practical coordination. We have established contact and are working to arrange the interrogation.”

The investigation includes at least three linked cases where individuals from Trøndelag were allegedly sent to Thailand with suitcases containing drugs. A woman in her 30s from Helgeland was arrested at Gardermoen Airport last November, another was convicted in Sweden, and the Namdalen man remains in Taiwanese custody. Drug smuggling via postal shipments is also under scrutiny.

The case involves connections to Øst and Troms police districts, as well as Sweden and Asian countries, Ulstad confirmed.
