The Faroese sand and gravel supplier Sandsølan will lease an additional 5,000 square metres at the Sund port, bringing its total leased area there to 25,000 square metres, Kringvarp Føroya reports.
The company imports sand, gravel, and other materials via the port’s quay, generating cargo and vessel fees for Tórshavn Port Authority. Authorities stated the operation significantly boosts economic activity at Sund.
The Tórshavn municipal council approved the lease earlier this year. Another company, Brennistøðin, also plans to lease 13,000 square metres at the port for scrap metal storage.
