The Faroese Salmon Farmers Association has warned that immediate reforms to market practices are essential to prevent the country’s salmon producers from losing their competitive edge, according to a report by Faroese public broadcaster KVF.
Faroese salmon farms harvested roughly 29% more fish in 2025 than the previous year, yet export revenues rose by just over 7%—despite a nearly 28% increase in total export volume. The association attributes the stagnant revenue growth to an unexpected surge in global supply, particularly from Norway.
Regin Jacobsen, a board member of the association and director at Bakkafrost, told KVF that the primary cause was “unusually large volumes entering the market, especially from Norway.”
