The new Smyril Line ferry Akranes, built at a Chinese shipyard, will be delivered months behind schedule, the Faroese shipping company confirmed Thursday.
Jens Meinhard Rasmussen, CEO of Smyril Line, told public broadcaster KVF that final adjustments to the 190-meter vessel are taking longer than planned. A second newbuild, Skipanes, remains under construction at the same CIMC Raffles yard in China.
Neither ship will replace existing vessels in the fleet, Rasmussen stated. Both are designed for future green energy conversions.
