The Tórshavn city council has approved amendments to zoning and land-use regulations for the A1 district, covering most of Argir and Havnin as well as parts of Hoyvík, public broadcaster KVF reports.
The changes will make it easier to increase building density and land use in the area, according to Birita Wardum, the city architect for Tórshavn municipality. A key provision allows for the conversion of existing buildings into residential units rather than requiring demolition.
Wardum stated that growing demand has made it necessary to raise both land-use intensity and construction levels in the district.
