A 26-year-old man previously deported to Iraq has been charged with aggravated child rape in Helsinki district court, Yle reports.

The alleged offence occurred in July 2019, when the accused, Milan Jaff, was 19 years old. The case was filed on 21 May 2026, though no trial date has yet been set.

Jaff, formerly a figure in Helsinki’s street gang scene and a minor social media rapper, was convicted in 2023 of aggravated child rape and rape in a separate case. While an appeals court later overturned the aggravated child rape conviction due to insufficient evidence, his rape conviction stood, resulting in an unconditional prison sentence of one year and two months.

He has also faced multiple convictions for violent crimes tied to street gangs, including involvement in planning a violent attack on Helsinki’s Kaivohuone restaurant in October 2021. His original ten-year sentence for that case was reduced to over six years on appeal. Jaff was released from prison in August 2025 but deported to Iraq that December.

Jaff first arrived in Finland as a 17-year-old asylum seeker from Iraq in 2017. Yle has named him due to his prior public profile, extensive media coverage of his deportation, and multiple convictions for serious crimes.
