The Faroese prime minister has not ruled out accepting a Danish state loan to help finance the proposed Suðuroy tunnel, following confirmation that Copenhagen is examining the option, Faroese public broadcaster KVF reports.
Prime Minister Beinir Johannesen stated that “we must keep as many possibilities open as feasible,” after Faroese MPs Anna Falkenberg and Sjúrður Skaale received a Danish transport ministry document outlining plans to assess a potential state loan for the tunnel project.
The Danish government will now evaluate how the Suðuroy tunnel could be funded “in the most cost-effective manner,” including the possibility of a state loan if the Faroese authorities request it.
