Swedes preparing for graduation festivities, National Day, and the Sweden Rock Festival should expect both sunshine and showers this week, according to meteorologist Deana Bajic of public broadcaster SVT.
A warm, humid air mass currently over the country will bring sharp temperature swings—spiking when the sun breaks through but also setting the stage for scattered downpours and localized heavy rain. “Many are asking if the weather will be good—sunny, warm, and beautiful, or rainy,” Bajic said. “This week, it will be both.”
For attendees of the Sweden Rock Festival in Blekinge, the event opens with a taste of summer: Wednesday will bring ample sunshine and temperatures of 18–19°C, though evening rain is forecast. Thursday and Friday will see variable cloud cover with isolated showers, while Saturday is expected to stabilize, with drier conditions and temperatures nearing 20°C whenever the sun emerges.
Graduation celebrations across the country face similar unpredictability. A rain system moving across Sweden on Wednesday and Thursday may deliver heavy downpours, particularly in Svealand and Götaland. While parts of central and eastern Sweden could see sunshine on Wednesday, a low-pressure system approaching from the west will thicken clouds along the west coast, with showers reaching Västra Götaland and Halland by Wednesday evening. Northern Sweden will see partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 15–19°C.
On Thursday, the rain system pushes northward, potentially bringing heavy showers and thunderstorms to Götaland, eastern Svealand, and the western coast. The outlook for National Day on Saturday remains uncertain, though scattered showers are likely in the south. “It’s wise to carry an umbrella or raincoat,” Bajic advised.
