The Faroese Union Party will work closely with Denmark’s newly formed government, with key demands including Faroese representation in the International Olympic Committee and state loans for the Suðuroy Tunnel, MP Anna Falkenberg said Wednesday.
Speaking to Faroese national broadcaster KVF, Falkenberg confirmed the party had secured several priorities in a new cooperation agreement with Copenhagen. These include ensuring Faroese readers in Denmark receive better language rights, guaranteeing that decisions affecting the Faroe Islands are made locally, and exploring state-backed loans for the planned Suðuroy Tunnel.
Falkenberg met with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen to finalise the agreement, noting that the Union Party’s parliamentary group—though seated alongside the opposition Social Democrats—had not faced obstacles in negotiations.
