Finnish president undergoes emergency appendectomy
Finnish President Sauli Niinistö has undergone emergency surgery to remove his appendix at Jorvi Hospital in Espoo, he announced Wednesday in a post on X.
Niinistö described arriving at the hospital late Tuesday with severe abdominal pain and praised the medical team for diagnosing and treating the condition within hours. “Jorvi Hospital’s emergency department operates impressively—last night’s escalating stomach pain was examined and resolved overnight in just a few hours,” he wrote. “Now heading home without an appendix.”
The president did not specify whether the procedure was laparoscopic or open surgery, nor did he indicate any planned changes to his official schedule.
