Finnish digital bank Pop-pank’s technical disruptions have left customers unable to access their funds for two days following a scheduled weekend maintenance, with some reporting failed card payments and blocked transfers, Yle reports.
Kari Niskanen, a customer in North Savo, told Yle he has been completely locked out of his account since the outage began. Despite following the bank’s post-maintenance login instructions, he remains unable to sign in. “In practice, I can’t physically access my money,” he said. While card payments and cash withdrawals now work, bill payments and transfers still fail.
Niskanen said he has spent over two hours waiting to speak with customer service and left multiple callback requests and emails—none of which have been answered. “Let’s just say it’s starting to get a bit frustrating,” he said. The situation is particularly urgent as he is due to travel soon.
Pop-pank communications director Maija Hyötyläinen acknowledged the disruptions but said the situation had improved by Tuesday, with most services gradually restoring. “Our goal is to return to normal as quickly as possible,” she said, apologising for the inconvenience.
Niskanen, who works in automation systems, said he understands technical updates can fail but expects better communication and compensation for additional costs incurred. “It makes you wonder whether I should switch banks—but then again, what if the next one has outages too?” he said.
While Niskanen has a savings account with another bank, Pop-pank remains his primary account for salary deposits and daily transactions. He noted that his debit card failed entirely on Monday, forcing him to rely on credit over the weekend.
