Finnish rescue services and authorities will restrict the information provided in initial alerts about accidents and fires starting this autumn, public broadcaster Yle reports.

Under the new guidelines, first notifications will no longer include street names or the number of emergency response units dispatched. The change follows a decision to replace the current Peto-media alert system with a new platform, according to Juha Virolainen, chief inspector at the Ministry of the Interior’s rescue department.

The ministry stated that the reform aims to enhance privacy protection, address current security concerns, and update an outdated IT system. Individual authorities will now have greater discretion over what details to release and when.
