Finnish explosives and defence contractor Forcit has begun construction of an electronics assembly plant in Salo, with operations expected to reach full capacity by 2029, the company announced in a statement on Tuesday.
The facility, located in the Meriniitty industrial area, will employ up to 200 workers once completed in early 2027. Recruitment is already in progress, with the company seeking specialists in electronics assembly, production, and quality control in phases, according to Alex Lagerstedt, head of Forcit Defence’s business operations.
The plant will manufacture high-tech components for defence applications but will not handle, produce, or store explosives. Forcit cited Salo’s logistical advantages—positioned between its existing sites in Hanko and Tampere—as a key factor in the location choice.
The company reported investing hundreds of millions in technology and capacity expansion, with the Salo plant accounting for a €10 million share of the total.
