Swedish royal couple to celebrate golden wedding with public events in Stockholm
Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia will mark their 50th wedding anniversary with a day of public celebrations in Stockholm on June 13, broadcaster SVT reports. The actual anniversary falls on June 19, but festivities will take place earlier to coincide with a weekend.
The day’s schedule begins at 11:00 with a Te Deum thanksgiving service in the Royal Chapel, attended by invited guests. At 14:00, the couple will row across Stockholm’s waterfront in a ceremonial barge with the Royal Order of the Seraphim, departing from Skeppsbron for Djurgården.
A motorcade through central Stockholm follows at 14:30, traveling along Strandvägen, Birger Jarlsgatan, Stureplan, Kungsgatan, Sveavägen, Sergels Torg, and Hamngatan before arriving at Kungsträdgården. There, at 15:00, the City of Stockholm will host a public concert featuring music from the past five decades, themed around love.
An evening gala concert in their honor will be held at the Royal Swedish Opera at 18:00, followed by a private dinner for family and friends at the Royal Palace at 20:00.
SVT will broadcast live coverage starting at 10:30 from the Grand Hôtel Stockholm, including the service, rowing procession, motorcade, and Kungsträdgården concert. The opera gala will air separately at 20:00. Pernilla Månsson Colt will anchor the coverage, with commentary from royal expert Roger Lundgren and others.
Ahead of the celebrations, SVT will air an interview with the couple recorded on Öland, available from June 9.
