Faroe Islands’ Eysturoy tunnel sees record May traffic with over 7,000 daily vehicles

More than 7,000 vehicles passed through the Eysturoy subsea tunnel each day on average in May, marking the highest monthly traffic since toll collection began, Faroese broadcaster KVF reports.

Daily traffic in the 11.2-kilometre Eysturoyartunnilin reached 7,031 vehicles last month, up from 6,687 in May 2025. The Sandoy tunnel recorded 1,241 daily vehicles—the second-highest figure since tolling started, surpassed only by July 2025’s 1,280.

The Norðoyatunnilin saw 4,831 daily vehicles in May, while the Vágatunnilin recorded 3,435.
