Tromsø police have detained 15 people in a sweeping operation targeting a cross-border drug trafficking network, with four now held in pre-trial custody, Dagbladet reports.

The investigation reveals drugs—primarily amphetamine and cocaine—were smuggled into Tromsø from abroad via cars, flights, and postal services. Authorities have documented roughly 90 flights between Oslo and Tromsø linked to the operation.

Around six kilograms of narcotics were seized, alongside electronic devices including multiple mobile phones. Police also froze financial transactions totalling several million kroner, suspecting ties to organised crime. A cash seizure of 190,000 kroner was confirmed.

Prosecutor Trude Skjønsfjell Kvanli stated the evidence points to a “large-scale, structured criminal enterprise” with connections to both Norwegian and international networks, including Swedish actors. A key figure, described as having a “leading role” and holding Swedish citizenship, was arrested in Tromsø and remains in custody.

“This is a critical step in combating organised crime in the region and nationally,” Kvanli said.

The operation involved collaboration with Oslo police, Norway’s national criminal investigation service (Kripos), the economic crime unit (Økokrim), and Swedish authorities.
