Man arrested in Pieksämäki after fatal stabbing of local resident

A man from Pieksämäki has been detained on suspicion of stabbing another local man to death late Saturday evening, Itä-Suomen Police confirmed to Yle. Both the victim and the suspect are young adults of legal age.
The incident occurred in a public area near Pieksämäki’s town centre, where a large number of young people had gathered for the evening. Emergency services alerted police to the violent attack shortly after 22:00.
Witnesses at the scene provided police with a description of the suspect and his direction of flight. Officers apprehended the man in the town centre shortly after the attack. The suspected weapon has also been secured by investigators.
Police conducted technical and tactical examinations throughout the weekend and continue to investigate the circumstances leading to the killing.
