A child was rescued unconscious from the bottom of a pool at Kongstenbadet swimming complex in Fredrikstad on Sunday, Norwegian police reported. Emergency services, including a search-and-rescue helicopter from Rygge, responded to the scene after the incident was reported at 16:12 local time, Dagbladet writes.
The child has since regained consciousness and is being transported to hospital by ambulance, according to Henrik Larsen, operations manager for Øst police district. “We are in contact with the child’s family,” Larsen stated in a police log update. “There were multiple witnesses to the incident, and investigations are ongoing.”
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was administered at the scene before the child was stabilised. The extent of the child’s injuries remains unclear, police confirmed. Several emergency agencies, including the SAR Queen helicopter, remain on site as the investigation continues.
