At Helsinki’s Fashion Week, designers and models from Aalto University’s fashion program highlighted comfort, long skirts, and statement jewelry as current trends, while fast fashion and polyester faced criticism.

The event, part of Fashion in Helsinki at Lasipalatsi square, showcased student designs on Thursday. In interviews with Yle, participants emphasized a shift toward relaxed, wearable styles—with long, flowing skirts and men’s skirts gaining approval. Oversized accessories, particularly bold jewelry, were also noted as popular.

Many cited the rapid turnover of trends as a reason to avoid dismissing styles outright, suggesting even unpopular choices could soon return. However, fast fashion and synthetic fabrics like polyester were widely rejected. Low-rise trousers, despite their recent comeback, drew skepticism.
