A major criminal investigation into Finland’s Security Intelligence Service (Supo) has concluded, with prosecutors alleging systemic failures in handling classified intelligence, state broadcaster Yle reports.
The Office of the Prosecutor General announced Friday that ten individuals—primarily Supo officials responsible for intelligence systems—are now under formal suspicion. Charges include unauthorized disclosure of state secrets, abuse of office, breach of official confidentiality, and dereliction of duty.
Investigators found that civilian personnel were granted unsupervised access to classified material, violating protocols for secret intelligence-gathering and civilian informant operations. In one case, a data breach targeting a civilian’s device exposed highly sensitive information to an external party.
The case has been forwarded for prosecution consideration, with Deputy Prosecutor General Jukka Rappe overseeing the file. Authorities declined to provide further details at this stage.
