One dead in Jämsä row house fire, police rule out foul play

A person died in a fire that broke out in a row house on Rekitie in Jämsä early Friday morning, according to a report by Finnish public broadcaster Yle.

Emergency services received the call at approximately 1:45 a.m. after a passerby alerted authorities to the blaze. Firefighters from Keski-Suomi and Pirkanmaa regions deployed 14 units to the scene.

The fire destroyed two residential units in the building, which also contains industrial space that sustained smoke damage, per the Central Finland Rescue Department. Fire crews extinguished the flames within an hour of arrival, though overhaul operations continued for several more hours.

Police stated they do not suspect criminal activity in connection with the fire. The cause remains under investigation.
