Three fires broke out this week in the basement of a residential building in Märynummi, Salo, with police confirming they were intentionally set using flammable materials, Finnish public broadcaster Yle reports.

Authorities detained one individual suspected of starting the fires, according to Lounais-Suomen Police. The first two blazes occurred on Monday—one in the early morning and another in the early evening—both in the basement of the same building on Hirvitie. A third fire was reported in the same location on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Anna Saarenoja told Yle that investigators believe all three fires are connected and deliberately ignited. Due to the ongoing investigation, no further details about the suspect or motives were disclosed.
