Faroese parliament adjourns after 304 hours of sessions

The Faroese parliament, the Løgting, concluded its 2025–2026 session on Thursday with a total of 59 meetings spanning 304 hours, state broadcaster KVF reports.

Since last year’s Ólavsøka festival, lawmakers have processed 110 bills, including the prime minister’s annual address. They submitted three written parliamentary questions, 85 oral questions, and 20 unannounced questions, along with 114 questions under Article 52a of parliamentary rules.

Committee activity included 37 meetings of the finance committee, 19 by the legal affairs committee, 18 by the welfare committee, 15 by the foreign affairs committee, and 12 each by the labour and culture committees.

The parliament will not reconvene until Ólavsøka. However, the government affairs committee met late Thursday to address a complaint against Bárður á Steig Nielsen, minister of fisheries, over allegations that lawmakers did not receive all documents related to proposed amendments to maritime conservation laws. The complaint’s origin remains undisclosed, though it does not involve a sitting MP.

Erhard Joensen, chair of the committee, confirmed receipt of the case but declined further comment.
