Suðuroy Tunnel project advances with new legislation in the Faroe Islands

The Suðuroy Tunnel is on track to become a reality.

In the legislative agenda for the current parliamentary session, three bills are set to facilitate this development.

One bill proposes the takeover of the Investment Fund, while another seeks to allocate funds from the fund to the companies involved in the Suðuroy Tunnel project and Vágar Airport, either as grants or loans with a grace period and low or no interest.

The third bill addresses the planning and design of an underwater tunnel between Suðuroy and Sandoy, along with the necessary road construction.

This proposal will grant the company responsible for the Suðuroy Tunnel the authority to design and put out to tender the project for the underwater tunnel between Suðuroy and Sandoy, along with the related roadworks.

The proposals will be submitted to the parliament this autumn.

Currently, the Investment Fund, which was established in 1964, holds around 650 million Danish kroner.
