The Faroese Disability Ombudsman has urged summer event organizers to ensure full accessibility for people with disabilities, including physical access, sign language interpretation, and clear information in advance.

In a statement issued Thursday, the agency reminded organizers that under the Faroese disability rights agreement, people with disabilities have equal rights to participate in cultural, leisure, and sporting events. Required accommodations include accessible transportation, parking, rest areas, and pathways for those with mobility or visual impairments, as well as sign language interpreters for the hearing impaired.

The ombudsman emphasized that event details and accessibility information must be readily available beforehand so attendees can plan accordingly. “The guiding principle must always be that everyone can participate,” the statement read.

Organizers with questions about compliance were directed to contact the Disability Ombudsman for guidance.
