Eight Faroese research projects awarded 9.3 million krona in funding

Eight research projects will receive a total of 9.3 million Faroese krona (DKK) in grants from the Faroese Research Council, the body announced Wednesday.

Four of the funded projects are doctoral studies. The council reported strong interest in this year’s funding round, receiving 46 applications totaling 52.7 million krona in requested support. A single expert committee evaluated the proposals, basing decisions on academic assessments by international specialists and the strategic priorities for Faroese research.

The funded projects are:

Humanities and social sciences Rannvá Næs Hoydal: “The body in Old Norse mythology: an interdisciplinary approach to corporeal imagery in Old Norse religion.” PhD project at the University of Iceland – 1.2 million krona.

Anna Eikhólm: “The Faroese leystur: special education as cultural knowledge in primary schools.” PhD project at the Faroe Islands University’s Department of Educational Science – 1.7 million krona.

Eivy Kristiansen: “Attitudes and experiences among healthcare professionals regarding trust and privacy in a small sub-Arctic society: a mixed-methods study.” PhD project at the Faroe Islands University’s Department of Health and Nursing Sciences – 1.7 million krona.

Elsa Krosstein: “Investigating Faroese ancestry through genomic data.” PhD project at the University of Copenhagen – 1 million krona.

Natural sciences and technology Thomas Ulrich: “Shifting paradigms in marine geochemistry based on seabed minerals.” Research project at Clausthal University of Technology, Germany – 1.1 million krona.

Ása Jacobsen: “Growth conditions for fish in Faroese fjords and access to overworked fish stocks on the continental shelf.” Research project at the Faroese Marine Research Institute – 1.058 million krona.

Knud Simonsen: “High-resolution wind atlas for the Faroe Islands.” Research project at the Faroese Meteorological Office – 486,790 krona.

Health sciences Pætur M. Holm: “Improving osteoarthritis treatment in the Faroe Islands.” Research project at Tórshavn Hospital’s surgical department – 1.1 million krona.
