Helsinki rental company Lumo to hold briefing on Kalasatama high-rise fire at 14:00
Rental housing provider Lumo will hold a live press conference at 14:00 local time today to address the severe apartment fire that broke out on Saturday at Leonkatu 21 in Helsinki’s Kalasatama district, state broadcaster Yle reports.
Speakers will include Lumo’s housing business director Janne Ojalehto, property management director Ville Kilpi, Helsinki Rescue Department unit chief Vesa Hyvönen, and acting head of Helsinki’s social and crisis emergency services Virpi Råman.
The fire spread unusually fast through the high-rise building, though no injuries were reported. Police have stated the blaze originated from the sudden ignition of a gas grill, though the man operating it denies criminal liability.
Firefighting efforts lasted several hours, with flames briefly subsiding before reigniting. Full extinguishment was achieved roughly three hours after the fire began.
Yle will cover the briefing with live updates in this article.
