A data protection risk in Finland’s parliamentary records has exposed sensitive housing documents of lawmakers, the parliament’s communications office confirmed in a statement Wednesday.
The breach involved rental agreements and property deeds submitted as part of lawmakers’ expense claims, which were accessible in the parliament’s registry office. While names were redacted, other personal and contact details remained visible, and redacted text could be recovered using technical tools such as phone cameras.
The parliament stated the risk has been eliminated and affected individuals have been notified. Authorities noted that lawmakers could have requested confidentiality for their address details when filing claims, but the redaction process itself failed to meet security standards.
No confirmed cases of individual data misuse have been identified.
