Assaults against women in Finland reach highest level since 2009

Assaults targeting women in Finland surged by over 10 percent last year, marking the highest number of female victims since 2009, according to new figures released by Statistics Finland.

The data shows 19,000 women were victims of assault in 2025, the largest annual figure in 17 years. Overall, the total number of assault victims rose by more than 8 percent from the previous year.

Violent and sexual offences affected 72,000 people in total last year, an increase of roughly 6 percent. Of these, 34,900 were women—a rise of over 6 percent—while male victims numbered 37,100, up nearly 6 percent. Some 20,000 of the victims were minors.
