A Faroese couple who have been married for 70 years now share a room at the same care facility in Tórshavn, public broadcaster KVF reports.

Niclas Akraberg Poulsen, 92, and Anna Poulsen (née Sundberg), 91, both originally from Suðuroy, say mutual respect and affection have been essential to their long and happy marriage. The pair first met in their youth and wed in 1956 after what they describe as a memorable engagement.

Poulsen worked as a police officer and later an inspector, a career that took the family north from Suðuroy. They eventually settled in Porkeri before moving to the capital in recent years to be closer to their children in their later years. When Anna first moved into the care home, Niclas initially resisted—until he visited and decided he wanted to join her.
