Strike halts Faroe Islands-bound cargo ships

A strike by deckhands and crew on three cargo vessels—Brúarfossi, Dettifossi, and Selfossi—began earlier today, disrupting shipments to the Faroe Islands, Faroese broadcaster KVF reports.

The ships, operated by Eimskip and Faroe Ship, are all en route to the islands. The Icelandic Seamen’s Union declared the strike, which has no set end date. A state mediator is attempting to broker a new collective bargaining agreement between the union and Eimskip.

Eimskip stated it has sought to minimize disruption by reducing staffing where possible.
